Deities and religions

The ranks of the divine of Ilyenor fall within a series of hierarchy structures and are usually organized based on the size of their dedicated religions.

The Major Powers of Ilyenor

These gods are the most powerful of the pantheon of Ilyenor and the most frequently worshipped of the divine.

While they are worshipped separately and typically thought of as being at odds, Enelwing and Elmindel are usually attributed as being twin brother and sister.

Enelwing enelwing.png

Goddess of Law, Order, and Pattern

Nickname: Keeper of Order

Holy Symbol: Two squares forming an eight-pointed star inside a circle.

Domains: Light, Life

Enelwing is the most commonly revered deity in the known lands and a large, structured hierarchy of priests and religious representatives can be found in most cities and towns.

The worship of Enelwing is the official state religion in the Kingdom of Thellerg and the Holy Dominion of Egiolin.

It is said that Enelwing dwells within the Luminous Domain in a symmetrical city of perfect order made of pure white stone.

Elmindel

God of Chaos and Entropy

Nickname: The Change-bringer

Holy Symbol: A spiral of alternating black and white.

Domains: Tempest

The worship of Elmindil is the solid minority among the major powers (even outnumbered by the followers of Elad).

While his worship is not an innately evil practice it is a difficult concept to grasp for those who do not follow him that while Elmindil represents change and the inability to know what the future may bring, he does not represent outright destruction (which is usually attributed to Elmindel’s daughter Sariel) or death (as represented by Hazar).

Those who are familiar with the planes of existence believe Elmindel to dwell somewhere within the Shadow Realm.

Elad

The Forces of Nature

Nickname: The Green Man

Holy Symbol: A sprouting seed.

Domains: Nature

Elad is the personification of the nature force revered by the Druids. There are some Clerics associated with the worship of Elad as well. Most Wood Elves are followers of Elad and the official state religion of the Republic of Adrindest is his worship.

While most other religions will acknowledge the divinity of other powers most other religious organizations ignore Elad as a whole and dismiss his worship as a meaningless nature cult.

Elad is thought to rule supreme within the forests of the Wildlands.

The Minor Powers of Ilyenor

These gods primarily represent spiritual and intellectual concepts within the world of Ilyenor.

Penem and Azah are usually revered in shared temples devoted to the worship of both. They are considered to be relatives of Enelwing and Elmindel sometimes being attributed as children of one or both of them depending on which religious scholar you ask.

It is commonly considered to be Azah’s duty to count the dead so their spirits can be shepherded to the realms beyond by Hazar. Those who die without being counted by Azah are said to be doomed to stalk the night as undead. As such it’s a relatively common practice to burn the dead on a funeral pyre to attract Azah’s attention.
